CIB reported a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 among one of our colleagues in the bank's head office departments, the staff member did not have a customer-facing role and has been on precautionary leave since March 17, upon the return of one of their family members from abroad, as per the bank's precautionary guidelines.

Our colleague has not been present in any CIB office or branch and has not interacted with any CIB staff members or customers.

CIB reported today that Mr. Hussein Abaza, its Chief Executive Officer, has chosen to enter a period of self-quarantine following the death of a close family member. That family member subsequently tested positive for covid-19.

Mr. Abaza will be tested for the virus in accordance with the protocols of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.

Mr. Abaza presently has no symptoms of covid-19 and continues to execute all of the duties of his office from home. He was already scheduled to work from home this week and next as part of the bank's covid-19 rotation policy for senior staff. He had accordingly made all arrangements necessary to carry out his duties remotely and will hold meetings this week with staff and investors.

In the event that it becomes necessary, his duties will be taken up by other members of the leadership team under the Bank's Business Continuity and Resilience plan.

In light of the announced curfew across Egypt and the revised working hours for shopping malls and meeting points, CIB will be adjusting the working hours of the below in-mall branches to operate from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM from Sunday to Thursday, with complete closure on weekends.

Out of an abundance of caution, CIB today closed five of its 207 branches as part of the nation's effort to slow and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus that causes covid-19. The branches closed are in the Semiramis InterContinental, the JW Marriott, Sofitel El Gezirah, Army Personal Housing Fund (till 7 April), and the CityStars InterContinental.

All of our other branches remain open during normal business hours.

Dear customers,

We are committed to fulfilling your banking needs while guaranteeing the safety and well-being of our customers and employees. Our teams are taking all necessary measures to provide uninterrupted services through our different banking channels for your safety and convenience. In addition to taking further measures in alignment with the Central Bank of Egypt to support our customers during the coming period.


Branches

  • CIB has reduced the number of employees per branch. This will have no effect on our capacity to serve clients

  • We are promoting social distancing by admitting fewer customers in our waiting areas at any given time

  • We have distributed hand sanitizers across all branches and applied extra hygiene measures across all service areas

  • Medical gloves have been distributed to all employees handling cash and working at central vaults

  • The bank has suspended all deliveries of food to its buildings and cafeterias


The following branches are currently closed for sanitation:

  • Gardenia, 6th of October City - Closed from 19/3/2020 until further notice

  • High Technology Institute, 10th of Ramadan - Closed from 15/3/2020 and will be reopened on 09/04/2020

  • Pharos University, Alexandria - Closed from 19/3/2020 until further notice

  • AUC, New Cairo campus – Closed from 23/3/2020 until further notice

  • BUE, ElShrouk – Closed from 23/3/2020 until further notice


ATMs & POS

  • Customers can withdraw cash from any non-CIB ATMs nationwide without incurring withdrawal fees

  • Withdrawal & deposit limits for debit, credit and prepaid cards have been adjusted in accordance with regulatory instructions

  • The limits for debit and credit contactless transactions without PIN have been increased to EGP 600

  • Commissions for POS and QR services will be waived for local transactions processed by domestic cards and wallets

  • Commissions for transactions processed by international cards issued outside Egypt will not be waived and will be deducted from the merchant’s account on a weekly basis. The commission waiver will be valid till the 15th of September 

  • Floor stickers to promote social distancing have been added to our ATMs within our branches and ATM centers

  • Hand sanitizer dispensers are being installed at CIB ATMs within branches and ATM centers


Credit Cards

  • There will be no minimum due payment required for the next 6 months unless our customers’ request it

  • Unpaid due payments will be subject to normal interest rates and will be due in six month time 

  • Customers will not be charged with late payment fees and will not be subject to any CBE or iScore reporting

  • All direct debit payments will be stopped unless the customer instructs otherwise through texting “deduct” to 16644 from the customer registered mobile number at the Bank

 (The above applies to existing cardholders only, for cards that have been issued before 16 March 2020)


Digital Banking

  • The Bank’s marketing efforts are focused on driving traffic away from branches and towards digital channels and ATMs

  • CIB is fully focused on serving our clients and ensuring access and availability to our digital services

  • CIB has published tutorial videos explaining how to access and use our digital channels. These tutorials can be found on our public website, YouTube and dedicated posts on Facebook

  • We are promoting our comprehensive suite of digital payment solutions and services that minimize CIB clients’ need to use cash, accommodates their busy lifestyles, and minimizes the need to visit branches

  • CIB’s clients can avoid public places or going to the branch by banking from the comfort of their homes, with access to our wide range of digital services including internet banking, mobile banking app, CIB’s Smart Wallet app, phone banking, and Zaki the chatbot to answer customer inquiries

  • Smart Wallet fees have been waived for the following transactions: P2P transfers, VCN, and cash-out transactions through ATMs


Loans

  • CIB will implement CBE directives to postpone the installments on consumer and business loans for 6 months starting March 2020 


Business Banking

  • SME clients can apply online for any Business Banking product and submit all documents electronically

  • We’ve set up Egypt’s first fully dedicated SME contact center

  • We’ve adjusted withdrawal limits on debit cards provided to small and medium sized companies to be EGP 5,000 for cash withdrawal and EGP 225,000 for purchase

  • We’ve postponed all loan installments and dues for 6 months without calculating any penalties or arrears


Recruitment

  • To guarantee the safety of our employees and candidates, all Interviews and assessments will be conducted online.


General Business Measures

  •  CIB has activated its work-from-home plans. Some of the Bank’s employees have been instructed to work from home, with priority given to those at greatest risk from the disease, to pregnant women and to mothers with unmet childcare needs

  • We have prohibited all physical meetings, including internal meetings and meetings with vendors, and suspended all business trips. We have also canceled all training programs, both here and abroad

  • The Bank has instructed any staff member suffering symptoms, or who has been in close contact with family or friends who are suffering symptoms, or who has recently traveled, to take 14 days of paid leave and self-isolate at home. We have also notified any staff member who has been in close contact with personnel asked for self-isolate

  • CIB has set up a dedicated 24/7 hotline for staff reporting any coronavirus symptoms. The Bank will use this channel to direct any affected staff on the next steps. All CIB staff and their families enjoy medical insurance provided by the nation’s top insurers
