The Commercial International Bank in Egypt (CIB), Egypt’s leading private bank and the world’s best bank in the emerging markets, exclusively sponsored the bicentenary celebration of Abu Simbel Temple’s discovery, held on September in Le Petit Palais Museum in Paris, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian Embassy in France.

This high-level event witnessed the attendance of more than 600 public figures including diplomats, business executives, senior French officials, notable cultural icons, numerous ambassadors and a recognized number of UNESCO representatives.

This celebration is one of many organized by Egypt in honor of the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the Abu Simbel Temple, as well as the 50th anniversary of the completion of the salvage of this temple (1968). This is part of the international campaign held by UNESCO organization in efforts to save the historical monuments of Nubia.

In his speech, the Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled El Anani recognized the journey of discovering the temple, the efforts exerted by the UNESCO organization in saving the temple by moving it last century, and their felt presence and cooperation in preserving the Egyptian monuments.

Commenting on this special event, the Egyptian Ambassador in France and UNESCO permanent member Mr. Ihab Badawi said, “This celebration is of a special nature. It is the revival of a historical day, not only for Egyptians but also for the whole world. This is one of the most important discoveries throughout history, and one of the largest projects of the UNESCO. Our country and our civilization is rich in wealth and unparalleled heritage, which proves Egypt’s strong stance in the world.”

Mr. Mohamed Sultan, CIB Chief Operations Officer, and representative of the bank at the ceremony said, “CIB-Egypt is proud to support and sponsor such high-profile international ceremonies, and we are honored to serve as ambassadors of our country abroad to enhance its position economically, culturally and socially across the globe. CIB’s leadership in the banking sector is no less important than its leadership in the community at both a local and an international level.” He further added, “CIB-Egypt has been leading for many years in efforts of strengthening Egypt’s position across borders, and promoting various sectors with promising development opportunities; with special focus on the revival of tourism.”
