Commercial International Bank (CIB), the country's largest private bank, rewarded 93 customers with gold bars as part of the National Debit campaign, held for the second consecutive year in association with MasterCard.

The ceremony was held at the Intercontinental Hotel, on September 13th, during which the Bank distributed 92 21 carat gold bars weighing eight grams each with the word "CIB" printed on the front and "MasterCard" printed on the back, in addition to one 21 carat gold bar weighing 100 grams.

The National Debit campaign, which ran from May 1st until July 31st 2015, was designed to encourage CIB's customers to use their debit cards for all purchases, instead of paying with cash, whether in Egypt or overseas. The campaign offers all of the Bank's MasterCard cardholders the opportunity to enter a draw every time they use their card, for the chance to win a gold bar.

The participation of CIB in this campaign, in cooperation with MasterCard, reflects the Bank's strategy towards facilitating the customers' daily transactions and providing all means of comfort and convenience. CIB is working towards creating a cashless society, by promoting awareness among its customers that electronic payment methods are safe and secure.

Mr. Mohamed El-Toukhy, CIB CEO Consumer Banking and Mr. Magdy Hassan, Country Manager – Egypt, MasterCard, distributed the prizes to all winners.

In his speech, El-Toukhy confirmed, "The huge success of the campaign for the second year in a row evidences the increased usage of debit cards for purchase transactions. This indicates that consumers are becoming more aware of the increased safety and convenience of using electronic payment methods compared to cash withdrawals." He added, "The campaign witnessed increased customer engagement this year, and customers enjoyed many advantages, including discounts on purchases".

El-Toukhy clarified that the purpose of this campaign is to limit the amount of cash used in purchase transactions, and consequently leads to increased convenience for customers.

It is worth mentioning that the 93 gold bars winners were selected through a raffle draw held under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
