High on its agenda CIB is ensuring that its premises are healthy and environment friendly structures, known as “Green Buildings”. Green Building is a holistic concept based on the understanding that constructions can have profound effects, both positive and negative, on the natural environment, as well as the people who inhabit buildings every day.
CIB worked closely with the Housing and Building National Research Centre (HBRC), Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development, to obtain an “Egyptian Green Pyramids Certificate”. This world-class “home-made” initiative is similar to the internationally-recognized LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. It is a mark of distinction, signifying that the building was constructed or is being operated to be a healthy, high-performing and resource-efficient structure. CIB contributed to the development of a Green Building Rating System for Egypt. The Bank’s Tes’een Street Branch was awarded the well-deserved Egyptian Green Pyramids Certificate, Golden Grade, following inspection of the building by a technical committee, which HBRC set up for this purpose.
Sustainability initiatives were applied in Tes’een branch as power and water saving. Environmental friendly furniture were placed, renewable energy as solar cells and solar water heaters were utilized. What was the score ?
1)We are the 1st Bank in Egypt to acquire the GPRS
2)Decreased electricity invoice 45% - saved Egypt the heavy load
3)Curtailed water consumption 30% - Economized water usage
